I never want to look back when i’m old and bed-ridden and REMINISCE ON THE YEARS THAT NEVER WERE BECAUSE I DIDN’T HAVE THE COURAGE TO LISTEN TO MY OWN CONSCIENCE!”

The Brink Of Womanhood: An Original Musical was co-composed by Ayda Akbal and Anna Maria D’Ortenzio, with lyrics and book by Anna Maria D’Ortenzio.

Set in Norland, England in 1868, The Brink Of Womanhood tells the story of a young girl, Elinor Dixon, a feisty and adventure-driven young woman who is looking to attend university, instead of following the routine route of marriage. It also follows Elinor’s younger sister, Lydia Dixon, who is more marriage-focused and traditional than Elinor, but finds strength in cultural norms. Both sisters find their fate in their own way and rely on adventure an determination to create their own destiny.

The musical has been staged twice since its conception in 2020, and focuses on themes of feminism, transformation, sisterhood, and the importance of forging one’s own way. If you are interested about rights to production, please contact Anna Maria.
